Homemade Twix Bar Recipe

I think one of my favourite chocolate bars is Twix.  Here’s an easy recipe to make them at home which I truly believe to be tastier than the original.

What You Will Need:

–  1 ½ cups of butter

–   2 cups of flour

–   ½ cup of sugar

–   ½ tsp of salt

–   2 cups of soft caramels (I usually just buy the little squares that you see during Halloween)

–   2 cups of semisweet chocolate

–   3 Tbsp of heavy cream

What You Will Need to do:

1.   Preheat your oven to 350°F.

2.   Line a 13×9 baking pan with aluminium foil and then spray tinfoil with cooking spray.

3.   Prepare the cookie base by placing the butter and sugar in a large bowl.  Mix together with a mixer.  Keep mixing until the contents of the bowl are light and fluffy.

4.   Now add the salt and flour and keep mixing with the mixer.

5.   Next, place the dough on to the bottom of the pan.  Press firmly and evenly.

6.  Bake the cookie base for about 20 minutes or until it is golden brown.

7.   Now place the caramels into a bowl with the 2 Tbsp of heavy cream.  Place the bowl in the microwave for 30 seconds at a time and stir each time.  If the caramel doesn’t seem to soften enough, add more heavy cream.  This microwave process should take between 3-5 minutes.

8.   Pour the caramel over the cookie base and place in the refrigerator for 45 minutes so that the caramel will cool down.

9.   Place the chocolate into a bowl and place in the microwave for 30 seconds at a time and stir each time.  This microwave process should take about 2 minutes.

10.   Take the cookie/caramel part out of the pan and cut up to desired size serving pieces.

11.   With a fork or another type of dipping tool, dip the pieces into the chocolate until they are covered.  Place the dipped bars onto a aluminium foil sheet and place them all in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes so that the chocolate can set.

Frugal Tip ~ Homemade Upholstery Spot Cleaner

Did a spill or some sort of other accident happen on your upholstery and you either ran out of cleaner or don’t want to use that store bought stuff with all the chemicals?  You can easily clean that stain for a little bit of baking soda.  Mix 1 tbsp of baking soda with some water and rub.  Make sure that you do a little spot check first though.  This also helps with deodorizing the area too.

Craft Idea ~ Mickey Mouse Pumpkin

Mickey's Pumpkin Patch

Here is an easy salt dough craft project that can be done and enjoyed by all for Halloween which I found at the Spoonful website with a few minor changes.

What You Will Need:

–   1 cup of flour

–   ½ cup of water

–   1 cup of salt

–   orange food colouring

–   black food colouring

–   toothpicks

–   black acrylic paint

–   fine-tipped black marker

What You Will Need to do:

1.   In a bowl, stir the flour, salt and water together until the ingredients hold together.

2.   Knead the dough until it is smooth.

3.   Take a ¼ of the dough into a different bowl and knead the black food colouring into it.

4.   Take the remaining ¾ of the dough, knead in the orange food colouring.

5.   Preheat your oven to 230°F.

6.   Now with the orange dough, form 4 or 5 small pumpkins.

7.   With the tip of a toothpick, poke a pair of holes (about ½” deep) in the top of each pumpkins where the ears belong.

 Mickey Pumpkins

8.   Like what is shown above, use the side of a toothpick to make vertical grooves on the pumpkins.  Once this is complete, place the pumpkins on a baking sheet.

9.   Now make a pair of ears for each pumpkin by inserting toothpicks into small balls of black dough.  Slowly pinch the dough to make it stick well to the toothpicks.  Flatten the balls so that they look like mouse ears.  Place these ears on another baking sheet.

10.   Bake all the dough for 30 minutes but make sure to keep an eye on them so they don’t start turning brown.  Note that the ears will probably take less time.

11.   Once the dough is done baking, let them cool down.

12.   With the black marker, outline Mickey’s head like shown below.  Then take the black paint to colour in the area.

Mickey Pumpkins

13.   Once the paint has dried, place the ears in.  You may have to cut the toothpicks to a shorter length.

Enjoy!
