Craft Idea ~ Mickey Mouse Pumpkin

Mickey's Pumpkin Patch

Here is an easy salt dough craft project that can be done and enjoyed by all for Halloween which I found at the Spoonful website with a few minor changes.

What You Will Need:

–   1 cup of flour

–   ½ cup of water

–   1 cup of salt

–   orange food colouring

–   black food colouring

–   toothpicks

–   black acrylic paint

–   fine-tipped black marker

What You Will Need to do:

1.   In a bowl, stir the flour, salt and water together until the ingredients hold together.

2.   Knead the dough until it is smooth.

3.   Take a ¼ of the dough into a different bowl and knead the black food colouring into it.

4.   Take the remaining ¾ of the dough, knead in the orange food colouring.

5.   Preheat your oven to 230°F.

6.   Now with the orange dough, form 4 or 5 small pumpkins.

7.   With the tip of a toothpick, poke a pair of holes (about ½” deep) in the top of each pumpkins where the ears belong.

8.   Like what is shown above, use the side of a toothpick to make vertical grooves on the pumpkins.  Once this is complete, place the pumpkins on a baking sheet.

9.   Now make a pair of ears for each pumpkin by inserting toothpicks into small balls of black dough.  Slowly pinch the dough to make it stick well to the toothpicks.  Flatten the balls so that they look like mouse ears.  Place these ears on another baking sheet.

10.   Bake all the dough for 30 minutes but make sure to keep an eye on them so they don’t start turning brown.  Note that the ears will probably take less time.

11.   Once the dough is done baking, let them cool down.

12.   With the black marker, outline Mickey’s head like shown below.  Then take the black paint to colour in the area.

13.   Once the paint has dried, place the ears in.  You may have to cut the toothpicks to a shorter length.

About Dino
There are many things that I love to do. One of those things is crafts! If I could find a job that involved crafts and being able to pay the bills, I'd be all over it! I've also found a great love for cooking and baking in the past few years. Sometimes there doesn't seem to be enough time in the day to be able to fully get into cooking and baking to the degree that I would like to. I've also found myself making a HUGE effort to save my family money. I'm still a beginner but I'm surprised at how many different ways I've found to save money, including starting to use coupons! I hope you enjoy all that I'm about to share.
